Abstract
The main concern of this study is the deictic or deixis ‘pointing via language’, and to bring deeper understandings on pakkadoq’s deictis expression in multi lingual context. Any linguistic form used to accomplish this pointing is called deictic expression (Yule 1996) or a deictic field (Hanks 2005), and includes exploration in honorifics (Agha 2007). This research aims to explore deictic expression within the society of Pakkadoq through both everyday talk and speech in ritual context. The study largely employs participant observation.
The research contributes ethnographically, in that it attempts to determine ways in which the Pakkadoq community employs deictic expressions, academically, as it enlightens work on the deixis in local language, and socioculturally, as it determines how the local text employs systems found in other languages.
