GLOCAL MEETINGS
General
The GLOCAL gives significant focus to planning and holding events, both for itself and for and with its collaborators. The events all have as their central purpose to assist scholars to develop their work and portfolios on linguistic anthropology and pertinent fields (sociolinguistics, cultural anthropology, critical theory, cultural psychology, folklore, linguistics, and so forth).
Conferences
The GLOCAL conferences occur annually in various parts of the world. At these conferences, scholars globally gather to present their work on linguistic anthropology. sociolinguistics, cultural anthropology, and pertinent fields. The conferences include paper presentations, colloquia, workshops, talks, media, exhibitions, and performances. Each conference culminates in proceedings publications, which are reviewed and published, and are indexed through SCOPUS and Web of Science / ISI systems. The conferences are held locally in respective parts of the world, and with annually changing collaborating hosts, so as to opportune scholars globally to attend these conferences, rather than to need to travel to regions with globally prominent institutions, which would not be possible for many of these scholars. As such, the GLOCAL exercises its anti-hegemonic and anti-colonialist mandates/, by localizing these conferences, mostly in the Global South. The conferences are intended to be categorized into seven: Asia, Africa, the Mediterranean and Europe, the Middle East, Oceania, Latin America, and North America. The GLOCAL has until the present time avoided hybrid conferences, as it believes that interaction is still optimum through either full in person meetings or full virtual meetings. However, in due course, developed technologies may allow for efficient and engaging hybrid meetings, at which time, the GLOCAL will consider organizing such events.. .
Workshops
The GLOCAL holds workshops at various times, both independently and with its collaborators. These workshops intend to provide participants with opportunities to develop their competences and networks in their respective fields, which are in some way connected to the field of linguistic anthropology. The workshops are convened by experts who can effectively guide and engage participants. Workshop convenors also maintain contact with participants after the workshops, and at times indefinitely, as these convenors share the belief of the GLOCAL that collaborative development of expertise should be life-long and constructed across communities. Workshops usually span two hours and welcome full interaction from all participants as commensurate to one another.
Committee Meetings
The GLOCAL has committees at several levels, such as its Central Committee, its Scientific Committee, its Regional Advisory Committee, its Consortium, and its general advisors. In these meetings, members voice their suggestions and vote on matters that are significant to GLOCAL networks and to GLOCAL constitutional mandates. The Central Committee General Meetings are held three times per year, online, as the members of the Central Committee reside in different regions globally. All Central Committee meetings are recorded as minutes, which are then distributed to all committee members for their formal confirmation. These minutes are then available to stakeholders at their request.
Informal Meetings
The GLOCAL frequently organizes informal meetings with affiliates, and with potential partners, to discuss invitations and potential collaborations. These meetings are held between the GLOCAL Directorship and any other members of the Central Committee and Administration wishing to attend, and who who are invited to the meetings.
