THE CALA

The Annual Conference on Asian Linguistic Anthropology seeks to redefine the way we view Asian Language and Society. The CALA holds its annual conference in selected universities globally, and publishes its journal, the JALA, the Journal of Asian Linguistic Anthropology. The JALA is a quarterly, peer reviewed, free to publish, journal. The official partner for the CALA is Taylor and Francis Global Publishers, together with a global network of universities and academics.

Tom Boellstorff

(University of California, Irvine) has focus on Cultural and Linguistic Anthropology. His interests include the Anthropology of sexuality, the Anthropology of globalization, digital Anthropology, Southeast Asian studies, and the Anthropology of HIV/AIDS. His current work emphasizes the Linguistic Anthropology of Southeast Asia, but draws on a range of scholarships such as Informatics, and Ontology.

ABOUT THIS SESSION

In CALA – LIAISE interview 1 – 1, Tom Boellstorff discusses the significance of Anthropology, Localizing Anthropology, Similarity and Difference, and the place of Anthropology at the University of California. Boellstorff introduces himself, his work, and his conceptions of the current state of Anthropology, vis-a-vis modern academia, history, and his work on Linguistics, Culture, and larger scholarship.
