Abstract

CHED Memorandum Order No. 9, series of 2013 entitled, Enhanced Policies and Guidelines on Student Affairs & Services mandates all higher education institutions to provide guidance and counseling services to help students cope, adjust, and resolve issues concerning their academic, personal, social, emotional, and intellectual growth in order for them to acquire optimal development. It offers assistance in critical areas of psychological and emotional challenges.

Nowadays, the growing number of issues related to gender and sexuality posts a great threat to the well-being of students. However, exploring these kind of issues among students will help school counselors to understand predicaments or tribulations brought about by cultures. In so doing, counselors and student affairs and services practitioners can craft new programs for the well-being of students.

Thus, this study will be conducted to analyze the status of gender and sexuality among college students at the Nueva Vizcaya State University-Bayombong Campus in order to become gender-responsive. The difficulties of students will be analyzed as they immerse themselves in an environment with diverse cultures. Purposive sampling will be used. Students who shall meet the criteria and have willingness to become informants shall become respondents. The qualitative method of research will be employed to gather baseline data. Focus group discussions along with semi-structured interview will be used to elicit in-depth responses among the respondents to understand their dilemmas. The approach is phenomenological for it attempts to explore the personal experiences of participants and is concerned with their personal perception or account of their condition (Smith and Osborn, 2007).
